Ikon International Institute

IKON International Institute, established by Dr Ralph (Rafael) Locke, is the provider of Transpersonal Counselling, Transpersonal Art Therapy and Shamanic Practice courses.

IKON is an international organization which is dedicated to teaching, research and innovative practice in areas which are of immense and immediate concern in the contemporary world. The institute was established in 1988.

The core philosophy of Ikon is captured in its motto, 'Creating the future through visionary practice'. This reflects the approach which Ikon has to education and training, community building, the environment and health and healing. It involves the notion that there is a spectrum of intelligences which reflects the scope and dynamics of human consciousness and capabilities, from which we can draw in understanding and solving common human problems and for building environments for the enrichment of human life.

In these terms, Ikon's activities can be referred to as Visionary Practice which is informed by Visionary Intelligence both of which are shaped by cutting edge transpersonal work and consciousness research and technologies.

One of the more important implications of Ikon's philosophy is that it is aimed at producing new kinds of practitioners who not only deliver superior services but also offer leadership in social change, community building and creating bridges between cultures within Australia and internationally.

In these respects, to date Ikon has moved in a number of significant directions:

  • The development of new approaches to youth work;
  • Innovations in health and healing programs aimed at addictions in Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities;
  • Research and development of education and self-care programs with respect to Multiple Sclerosis, Diabetes and other chronic states;
  • Research and development on new understandings of spiritual crisis and emergence processes in relation to mental health;
  • Innovations on health and human development in the form of major self-care programs, The Helikon Process and the Life Design Process;
  • Extensive cross-cultural, corporate, community and individual consulting within Australia and internationally.

    Ikon has established a national and international network of imaginative and active people to share knowledge, vision, strategies and support in addressing common human problems and the invention of the future. It is the Visionary Practice Network [VPN].

    In 2001, Ikon launched its new on-line journal, Visionary Practice, which will be the voice of Ikon and the VPN.
