ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Age

If you are over eighteen years of age, you may apply to study the Kinesiology program at the College of Complementary Medicine.

If you are 25 years of age, you may apply to study the Diplomas in Transpersonal Art Therapy and Transpersonal Counselling and the Shamanism and Transformational Mask course at the College of Complementary Medicine.

Persons not meeting the above age requirements may request special consideration.

Academic

The NSW Higher School Certificate education qualification or equivalent is required.  In undertaking the Kinesiology program (Degree level training) a certain amount of knowledge and skills are assumed (including adequate English language skills, ability to write assignments).

Experience

If you do not have the above academic qualification you can provide information on current work experience (at least the last five years) and general background information to support your application for enrolment.

Work experience in related natural health fields is desirable, but not essential, as the course is complete in itself and does not require prior professional qualification.

English Language

Classes are conducted in English. International students considering enrolling in the Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses must be fluent in English to an acceptable TOEFL 550 or IELTS 6.0 standard.  If a person does not have these qualifications or additional study of English is required, organisations that have lessons available can be found on the Useful Websites page of the prospectus.

ENROLMENT AND ENTRY PROCESS

After reading the course prospectus we recommend that you speak with one of our Course Advisors, if you have not already done so, to obtain the fee schedule and refund policy any to clarify any thing that you are not certain about.

Once you have all the information you need, including the fee schedule and refund policy, and wish to enrol you must complete the Application for Enrolment form.  This form can be sent to you by one of our Course Advisors by mail or email or downloaded from this site.

The Application for Enrolment includes an application for Recognised Prior Learning (RPL) and this section should be filled in if relevant to you.  Students who have undertaken study in other fields prior to commencing the Kinesiology program commonly apply for RPL for the Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Senior First Aid Certificate and/or Communication components of the program.

Once you have completed the form you must forward certified (authenticated by a Justice of the Peace, Certified Practicing Accountant, Veterinary Surgeon etc) copy of all your academic qualifications and/or supporting documentation by mail or scanned copies by email.  Your application will not be considered complete until all supporting documentation has been received.

Applications for Enrolment will be assessed:

·     to determine whether a person meets the entry requirements

·     to determine whether a person has the suitable academic qualification and/or work experience that would enable them to participate and complete the course;

·     to determine a person’s level of interest and motivation to undertake the course;

·     to establish any physical health, mental health or disability which would inhibit the ability of a person to adequately participate in and complete the course.  For example, personal problems which are ongoing and interfering significantly with cognitive, emotional and interpersonal functioning; and

·     to establish strategies through which a person may enhance their ability to adequately participate in and complete the course with respect to matters of cognitive and social skills.

You will be notified if your application is successful or whether an interview is required to better establish the parameters of your suitability to the study program.

International Students

The above process equates to steps 1 and 2 on the enrolment process detailed in the prospectus and reproduced below.

Step 2: Obtain a Student Visa Information form which is available at your nearest Australian Embassy or from the DIAC website www.immi.gov.au.  This information will tell you where to have your medical examination, the cost of applying, what you need to submit in order to gain a Student Visa and information forms.

Step 3: After receiving your application for enrolment the Course Advisor assisting you will send you a Contract, which includes a Written Agreement, for you to fill in.  Complete and return this document.

Step 4: After your contract has been reviewed and your enrolment accepted (English language studies pending if relevant) we will send you a letter confirming your enrolment and an invoice for the first semester fees.  If requested we will organise your health insurance at this stage and send an invoice for fees at the same time.

Step 5: Once your fees have been paid we will electronically notify the immigration office, that you nominated, of your enrolment and acceptance. Please note you must make your Visa Application at the same office.  We will give you a copy of the electronic notification that you must submit when you make your Visa Application.

Step 6: Please notify our Registrar as soon as your Visa Application is approved, and provide us with a photocopy of the Visa. We will also need to sight an original when you arrive.

Step 7: It’s time to find and arrange your accommodation. See the Useful Websites page in the prospectus.  You can also email the College a notice to put on the College pin board.  The Registrar

will help you find accommodation if required.  Once you get to know your fellow students you will also hear

of accommodation through word of mouth.

Step 8: Once you are here, we need to sight your Visa and the originals of documents provided with you application for enrolment.  Please make an appointment to meet the Registrar and office staff.  We will show you around so you are familiar with everything and can help you with any enquiries you might have.

Step 9: As soon as you have commenced your studies, you may apply for a work Visa. You will require a 157P Application which you can obtain from DIAC or on their website www.immi.gov.au

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)/ NATIONAL RECOGNITION

It is our policy to offer recognition of prior learning (RPL) to all students.  This means you are able to obtain academic and financial credit ($150 per day of study) for competencies gained prior to enrolment.  These competencies would have been gained in study and/or experience outside of, but related to, units of study within the course.  We accept credentials issued by other Registered Training Organisations based in Australia and will consider qualifications obtained through overseas institutions.

Please check the list of competencies for the course you are interested in to see if there is a subject for which you would want to apply for RPL.  Competencies in the Kinesiology program commonly attract RPL applications.

For example, the Senior First Aid Certificate is taught for one day in module 6 of the Certificate IV in Kinesiology (keep in mind the date of currency if you already have one and are considering applying for an RPL).  Also, students may have studied some anatomy and physiology, nutrition and/or counselling and communications.  There are also business study type subjects that you may have covered in another course.

Applications for RPL need to be completed and returned along with certified copies of relevant documentation (see below) with the Application for Enrolment form.  All relevant documentation needs to be provided to enable the College to process the application.  Applications for RPL will not be processed once the course commences.

If an application for RPL is approved, the student will be exempt from completing that subject, and receive course credit.  Relevant semester fees will be adjusted and invoiced accordingly.  You are not permitted to attend class on the days for which you have an RPL.

Exemptions are applicable only to the course in which the student is enrolled at the time of applying for exemptions. If a student changes courses, exemptions granted will be reassessed to ensure that they are still appropriate.

Types of RPL Applications

There are a number of different types of Recognised Prior Learning applications and these and the relevant documentation required are details below.

Please note that all document copies submitted as part of an application for RPL should be certified by a Justice of the Peace.  Alternatively, you may bring the original documents to the College and the copies will be marked as verified copies.

Also, if name on any documents is different from the applicant’s current name, proof that this person is one and the same must be provided.  Certified copies or originals to be sighted of a marriage certificate or change of name certificate must be provided.
